40-ish skin & a $100 giveaway

Though I appreciate the added wisdom and perspective I’m gaining as I get older, I can’t say I feel the same about the changes in my skin.  My hubby, bless his heart, looked at this picture of me and said I’ve hardly changed since we first met when I was 17.   But I see the changes in myself and can’t help but wish that wrinkles didn’t come along with wisdom.

When I was asked if I’d be game to review StriVectin-SD Intensive Concentrate for Stretch Marks & Wrinkles, I was more than willing. The stuff is pricey, but it comes in a huge 5-ounce tube, which makes the price per ounce actually pretty decent. It smells good and goes on nicely with just a tiny bit of tingling to signal its exfoliating effect on the skin. Some exfoliating cream is so drying that if you use it in the morning you’ll be peeling like a crocodile by noon. Strivectin-SD isn’t like that — it’s very moisturizing.

My skin care routine is really very simple. I do the oil cleansing method (I wrote about it here) and feel like it does a good job at moisturizing and leaving my skin looking fresh and feeling supple. I didn’t really expect this cream to magically get rid of my wrinkles — I’ve earned them, after all. But any improvement would be welcomed and I was really hoping to even out the brown sun spots on my cheeks.

Since the olive oil is so good on my skin, I decided to just add the StriVectin-SD Intensive Concentrate on top of that. I’ve used it for about 3 weeks now and am really happy with the results. It has noticeably lightened the sun spots on my cheeks, and made one smaller one on my forehead almost completely disappear. I need to start using it on the backs of my hands — I’d love to see if those spots would get lighter too.

I think this tube is going to last me quite a while, but when I use it up I’ll be buying more. This stuff feels great on my skin, and has definitely improved the looks of it. It’s more even-toned and feels nicely moisturized. Love it! But I’m also glad I have a hubby who still thinks I look 17. I’ll take every advantage I can get!

wow I would love to try this product I definitely feel that it is important to tke care of your skin as you get older:)

  7. I saw that Costco was carrying this. Does anyone know if it would be good for fading red acne scars also?

  8. In the minority of the women over 50 who have shelves and drawers of makeup and beauty products. I have 0. I don’t use makeup of any kind–never have; don’t use any special creams, oils, powders, fingernail polish–never have and use only baby shampoo in hair and ivory soap for everything else.
I work in the professional healthcare industry in contact with people all the time with women asking me what I do to stay looking so young… when I tell them… the look on their face is priceless.
Didn’t start to try to make a statement, with a household of children outnumbering me 10 to 1, I had no time for anything and makeup, etc. was just not important and now I see no reason to reinvent the wheel.

  21. Lisa Brown says:

I like the gentle, continual exfoliation the NIA-114 does to the skin. It’s easier on the skin for those like me with sensitive skin and who cannot use harsher chemical exfoliants. Softens lines
    and clarifies the skin.

  28. Jessica To says:

I am interested to see if it could get rid of my laugh line wrinkles.

  29. Reducing stretch marks is the most attractive claim to me.

  30. I love how it is supposed to repair damage….interested to see if it would do that for my sun damaged skin and for my surgery scar.

  31. I certainly have some stretch marks that could use some help!

  32. I would love something that could help with stretch marks. I have had them since I was 13 years old and they are so bad that I won’t wear a two piece swimsuit even though I am in good enough shape for it. What a miracle if this product works!!

  33. I’m curious about how it would work on my stretch marks. When my OB did a double take and saris “Whoa!” when I lifted my shirt I knew they were pretty bad.

  34. I am interested in having it help diminish the appearance of fine lines around my eyes.

  35. I like that NIA-114 repairs damage & works on wrinkles since I had some sun damage when I was younger and I am worried my skin will age quicker.

  36. I would love to see how this product could benefit stretchmarks from my six pregnancies!

  37. Charleine neill says:

    46 years and 5 kids later… A 3 month old … I need this!!!!

  38. I would love to try this! I have always had good skin, but I am 38 this year and my skin is changing fast. Would love to try and slow down the aging I am seeing.

  39. I’m only 30 but the wrinkles around my eyes make me look tired all the time. I’d be interested in seeing how this product compares to my current moisturizer which doesn’t have any age-defying or wrinkle reducing claims.

  40. I would like to know more of the science of how it helps “rebuild the skin area.” On the other hand, my biggest question is “how well does it work?” I got quite a lot of darker marks on my face with my last pregnancy – don’t know if they are sunspots or what, but I’d love to try this product on them!

  41. Hey I’ve got 40ish skin myself and 6 years in the Sahara desert didn’t do me any favors. I would love to try this product! Specifically, I have sensitive skin so I wonder how it would work. The moisturizing aspect sounds terrific.

  42. I’m 37 and so far no wrinkles, but in the winter my skin gets really dry. I use the Strivectin AR and love it. The AR includes Retinol which also works on wrinkles but for me it also works to help lessen the little bit of acne I still tend to get.

  43. It’s been occurring to me lately that I’m not in my teens anymore. I’m wondering how to go about taking care of my skin so I don’t spend too much time or money but don’t regret ignoring my skin a few years down the road. I like that this contains vitamin B and amino acids. I usually try to use all-natural products and the simpler the better, but this sounds tempting!

  44. I read that NIA-114 helps niacin get into your skin, and that niacin repairs skin damage and helps to rebuild skin layers. That sounds wonderful!

  45. I find it very interesting that the NIA-114 molecule actually helps rebuild skin. Who would have thought?!
