Fall projects

All week I’ve been promising myself a trip to the fabric store, and finally yesterday I was able to go.  Here are the goodies that I found.  The first picture shows the pinwale corduroy that I chose to make winter dresses for my 5 and 8 year old daughters.  I’ll use the brown for accent, and also in the picture you can see the pattern I chose.  The pattern has several options for bodice and sleeves.  I think I’ll do this dress as shown on the model in the center.  If the pattern goes together nicely, I may use it again and make something else with the short puff sleeves.

Also yesterday the girls and I picked out some fun Christmas fabric so that we could add to our collection of Christmas gift bags.  These are the ones that my 8, 12, and 15 year old daughters picked out.  Aren’t they pretty?

This last photo shows all the gift bag fabrics together.  I especially love the Christmas cats fabric.  My 5 year old picked out the adorable gingerbread fabric.   I’m looking forward to doing some sewing in the next few weeks.

  1. Do you have a pattern you use for the gift bags?

  2. I have that dress pattern! I made the blue sleeveless jumper for my (then) 5 y.o last year. I found the pattern ran a little big so I had to monkey with the cutting a bit to get the finished dress to fit. But it went together beautifully and was just adoarble! I want to make the same view you’re making for their Christmas dresses this year.

  3. Very nice! I love the idea of reusable gift bags. One of these days I’m going to have to break out the sewing machine and attempt a few easy projects.

How’s the running going? I’m on week 2 of the C25K program now, thanks to inspiration from you and Kim at Life in a Shoe.

  4. My mom has this pattern, and she made my daughter a black with white pin-striped jumper for Christmas last year. She wears it with a white blouse and it is one of my favorite dressy outfits. Happy sewing!

  5. Love the button fabric!
