Movie Review: Nim’s Island

For family movie night last night we watched Nim’s Island. I was expecting it to be a little silly, but was hoping it would be a decent choice for my kids. The kids loved it, but I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy it very much myself as well. Especially good was Jodie Foster’s character– a writer who was a teensy bit off her rocker. Totally believeable and funny. I got this clip here. They also have a discussion guide available for anyone who is interested.

  1. Loved Nim’s Island . . . we purchased the video so the kids could enjoy it again and again. My favorite character was FRED!

  2. Oh, I’m glad you liked it. I had wondered whether or not to add it to my Netflix queue for our Pizza/movie night. I’ll go add it right now!

  3. Thanks for the review. Chilihead Jr. has been wanting to rent this for a while and I haven’t gotten around to it. I’ll rent it this week as a treat.

  4. Oh, I’ve been so curious about this movie! I love the actors in it, so I figured it would be worth a rental anyway. Thanks for the review!

  5. I was also pleasantly surprised by this movie. Nothing in it I would object to my family watching and enough of a story that I could sit through it without wanting to pull out my laptop and surf the net instead.

  6. We rented it a couple of nights ago from the $1 Redbox – LOVED it. Jodie’s funny and I’m sorry, but I’ll watch any movie with Gerard Butler…even my husband loves him (just not for the same

  7. Hey… I’m a writer who is a teensy bit off her rocker! Yay! Looks like I know which movie we’re watching next!

Only thing is I can’t get the picture out of my head of the little girl doing her dance to Super Freak…

  8. We watched Nim’s Island for our family movie night this week too! It was really good and I couldn’t believe how well it kept my preschooler’s attention!

  9. We really enjoyed this movie. So much in fact that we took the girls to see it twice at the dollar theater.

  10. Just stumbled upon your site today and really enjoy your family’s story.
