This weekend

We went camping over the weekend, to ‘our’ place in the mountains. Got a little fishing in, a little swimming, some visiting with the relatives, some hot dogs, lots of playing with cousins (even the dog-cousins had fun!), and more than our share of bug bites (despite using two entire cans of deet).

The five year old and the two year old got their very own new fishing poles. This means I said ‘watch your hook!!’ to the five year old at least four hundred times, usually in tones of great alarm as the hook was swinging wildly past my eye yet again. (We didn’t give the two year old a hook!) Thankfully nothing but fish got snagged. Here are a few pictures.

  1. The black dog looks so much like my own. They could be siblings.

  2. It looks like you all had a great time camping! I just posted about some mosquito relief we found last year that worked very well!

  3. Love, love, love the sleeping baby pic. :^) So sweet.

  4. love these pictures and the expressions (especially on your sons in the first one!) are precious. looks like a lovely weekend.

  5. It sure looks like everyone was having fun. I hate camping, so I wouldn’t say it actually LOOKED like fun, lol. I, too, think that picture of your littlest one sleeping is just too precious. Imagine, in just a short time you’ll have 2 more with you!

  6. Mary,
I loved looking at your pics. I absolutely love to camp!! I would take it over a 5 star hotel any time. I really am a cheap date!

  7. Mary,
I love the picture of your baby sleeping!
And you have a Westie, one of my favorite dogs – SO much personality!!!!
You are a better person than me – camping tho, I’m a big wimp!!!!!

  8. The Westie and the golden retriever belong to John’s siblings. The black border collie/lab mix dog is ours… It was the first time all 3 dogs had hung out together and we were amazed that they got along pretty well. And they look pretty together too, which is why I took the picture!

  9. Love these pitures, especially the middle one…what a dad!! It looks like you all had a great time.
I’m praying that all goes well with your two girls in the adoption process:))

  10. Looks like a fabulous weekend!

  11. great smiles!! glad you’re home 🙂

  12. What beautiful pictures of your family!

I would say that you and your husband are not selfish people.

  13. It looks like you had a great time. Did you make it to the African Childrens choir?? 🙂
You must have a great place to camp if you fish, swim, and see family!

  14. I vote for the sleeping baby picture too! Really, all the photos are great! What a beautiful family!

  15. You are such a beautiful family. God bless you!

  16. Your five year old is stunning, and the rest of them are beautiful too. Lovely pics.

  17. That is some back pack! But the cargo is even more impressive. Love that grin!

Jeana, wondering how you fit ten people in a camper.

  18. LOVE your family pictures. So sweet.

  19. Great pictures! I love the first one.

  20. You can press a little piece of bread on to a swivel at the end of your line,(instead of a hook) for the little ones. That way, they can learn to cast and can feel the fishies nibbling! If the fish are extra greedy, they can almost be pulled up which is SO EXCITING! Once they start using a hook, use a pliers to press down the barb. This makes it easier to remove… From the fish AND the kid!

  21. I absolutely adore the photo of your baby sleeping on her daddy’s neck! Too precious!

  22. I can’t wait to see how the girls will love the mountains. Is it different than what they are used to? I think it would be. The one of the sleepyhead is scrumptious. She looks like she plain wore herself out!

    So excited 🙂
