On Surviving A Tired Day

Last Saturday I asked you all to share your best tips for surviving sleep deprivation. Along with my standard life-saver caffeine (apparently it not just me who needs the stuff!) you all shared a bunch of good ideas. Thanks so much.

The Golden Keyboard this week goes to Carrien, who replied on her blog She Laughs at the Days. Be sure to check out the whole post–it’s worth reading. But below is one highlight.

I try to remember that my children are more important than paper work, tax returns, ins forms, laundry, dirty floors, and all of the other things I seem to be drowning in. It’s easier to remember this if I sit down and spend time with them instead of treating them as the flies buzzing around my head as I try to work and swatting them away in annoyance. I will take up residence in a comfortable chair and get them to tell me stories. I will read a few books to them, if I can stay awake long enough. I will hug on purpose, and store up Mommy kisses for the time later in the day when I need to concentrate on something else and need them to play quietly on their own. I will try to remain open to my children.

Congrats, Carrien, and thank you for sharing your heart! Since I was foolish enough to stay up till 2 a.m. this morning, I may be using your hints this very day!

  1. “treating them as the flies buzzing around my head” Ouch. I’ve definately been guilty of THAT. Wonderful tips Carrien.

  2. That WAS a perfect choice. That flies line will be in my mind all day.

  3. Amen to all of that! I’m with Heth….I was convicted by that statement!! And I thought of you at 5 am this morning when I’d already been awake for 2 hrs. I thought of this particular post, and thought….hmmmm….I might should read over those tomorrow! : ) Karis was up sick coughing for a good 3 1/2 – 4 hrs last night! She was a trooper, she only cried for about 10 min of it….the rest was just coughing, which kept me awake trying to rack my brain as to how to help the poor little thing!

  4. Thanks Mary, um, I can’t seem to find your e-mail addresscould you leave it here in the comments again so I can get that cool button? At least my tired days earned a button, that’s something.
