Last evening I went into my four year old’s room to tuck her in for the night.
“Mommy, I decided what I’m going to do when I grow up.”
“What?” I knelt next to the bed and leaned in for a hug.
She draped her arms around my neck and continued. “I’m going to college, and I’ll be gone a long long time, but when it’s church camp time, I’ll come home so I can go with you.”
I was glad church camp was enough of a draw to bring her back, but sad at the thought of her going, even sometime in the hazy future. “That sounds like a good plan. But you can’t go for a long time because you still need to be a little girl for a long long, long time. OK?” I hugged her tight.
She grinned. “Okay, I’ll stay with you till I’m…….42! Would that be good?”
“Perfect.” I proceeded to kiss her all over her face.
“Mommy!” she said after a moment, laughing and squirming. “I am DONE with kissing now!”
I kissed her once more right on the nose just because I’m ornery like that. And because I’d better kiss her quick while I can. After all, I’ll only be tucking her in till she’s 42.
How cute!
when i was about that age, i promised my dad i wouldn’t leave home and start dating until i was 30. i am only 28, but am married with my own little girl now. hmm… i hate to warn you, but you might not be able to hold her to that promise!
I just love your 4 year old! She always has the cutest/most thoughtful things to say.
Bwahahahahahahahaha! So cute.
What a sweetie. Yes, get those kisses in while you can! 🙂
She’s too precious!! we missed you and your 2 little ones at church yesterday. hope everyone is feeling better 🙂
That is such a sweet story. I “over”kiss my kids too. What’s a mom to do?
Sweet!!
What a little honeybun!
Give her an extra smooch and tell her it’s from some old lady on the prairie.
I love moments like that – it makes all the other moments seem not so bad afterall.
sooooo cute!
One of my boys insists that when he grows up he wants to buy a house next to us so he can see us all the time. I appreciate his feelings but have wondered if his wife will go for it 🙂
And you’re right, enjoy it while you can.
Posts like this one always make me smile and want to cry at the same time…because, as I posted on myself not long ago…”life does come at you fast”.
Thanks for the reminder to hold these moments in our hand while we can…and to steal those kisses!
I love when kids say stuff like this!
I love this picture of childhood! My “baby” is turning 5 in just two weeks. I know that the long snuggles and cuddles I get are going to end all too soon. Your 4 year old is adorable! 🙂
