Book Review: Toddler books by Leslie Patricelli

Recently I was sent two books by Leslie Patricelli: Baby Happy, Baby Sad, and Higher, Higher. Both books have very simple repetitive words and bright line drawings. When John first read them to our 4 and 6 year old girls, he and I were underwhelmed. I remarked that the books were probably meant for younger toddlers, and we set them aside.

But here’s the funny thing: for the past 3 days, our 4 year old has brought me those books every.single.day. She sits and ‘reads’ the books to me, obviously loving the predictability of the simple story. Her enjoyment of the books caused me to revise my initial opinion — if my daughter is any judge, they are winners for the preschool aged set.
