Frugal Friday

Just a few quick notes from this week!  Frugal wins this week included:

  • Bought a vinyl remnant at Lowes for the bathroom floor– got double the vinyl for the same cost– enough for two bathrooms.  We do have another project in mind one of these days, so that reduce the flooring cost to $45/bathroom!
  • Instead of buying a new vanity, we reused the vanity from the old bathroom, and freshened it up with dark stain (like this) and a fresh pair of door handles.
  • Spent 10 minutes hunting down coupon codes on a clothing website- tried a bunch before successfully saving 20% plus getting free shipping– $16 savings for 10 minutes of work.
  • Eldest spotted a GREAT sale on ground beef $1.79/lb, and bought me 30 pounds.  The kids browned some and made some into hamburger patties.  So we are all stocked up at a great price.

That’s it from here.  How’d you do?

  1. Got god savings, but spent a lot this week. A friend gave me a 20% off code for Old Navy, so I stocked up on fall/winter wardrobe stuff for the toddler.

I decided to take up golf again, mainly for career reasons. I needed golf clubs and really liked some new ones, but found that the manufacturer has a website selling used ones, so I saved over 50% off the new version for clubs in very good used condition.

I am currently deciding whether it is worth it to me to take the bus to work every day. The big issue is that the last one leaves my town for downtown at 7:20 in the morning, so I would have to get the kids up super early to make it on time. Still deciding on that.

  2. For this art lover:
Went to art gallery and was enjoying a section (included a book) when the volunteer told me they were taking it down the next day so if I wanted the book – I could purchase it for $5. I jumped at the chance to get it. So I bought ‘When I Die’ by Candy Chang for a mere $5. What a savings and what a find. If you have not heard or seen this book- check it out. The experiment has been reproduced in many towns across America- including the one I was in. Amazing idea.
I had plans to repaint my garage next month and am going to use chalkboard paint on one whole side for family and visitors and have a ‘before i die’ wall. Quite the conversation piece.

  3. Mary, soooo very jealous on your ground beef prices! I think my only frugal accomplishment this week was to do a mini freezer session. Since were moving I am trying to stay out of stores. But we finally got our frig from our apartment after a month. Otherwise did some back to school supplies shopping.

  4. Dawn Van Haaften says:

Very Jealous of your ground beef prices! I got a steal at the farmers market though on beef in bulk. 28 pounds for $100 so $2.80/pound for better than 90% lean with grass fed no hormones or steroids on the cows….was a Great deal considering 90% is $6.50/lb here in Pella, Iowa.

  5. My spouse and I stumbled over here coming from a different
website and thought I might check things out. I like what I see so
i am just following you. Look forward to looking at your web page yet again.
