Baby giveaway!

Today’s giveaway is a group of useful baby items. The first is a cute partitioned plate with pictures on it to demonstrate healthy ratios of meats, veggies and starches.

Next is a book filled with all sorts of ideas to help babies sleep. Now, I need to mention that I disagree with a few of the ideas in the book. Breastfed infants don’t need water. They just need their mommas.  I don’t believe that co-sleeping  is dangerous.  Undrugged mommas are very capable of keeping their babies safe sleeping right next to them. If dad happens to be a very deep, restless sleeper and you’re concerned,  keep baby in one of those cool ‘sidecar’ things on mom’s side of the bed.  (This one is THE best ever!)   Also I disagree with letting a baby under the age of 9 months or so cry it out. Older babies, maybe. But even when I’m putting a 1 year old in bed and insisting he stay there, I am sitting next to the crib patting his back.  I just don’t feel right about leaving little ones alone to cry.

So, yeah.  I have reservations about a few of the ideas in the book. But along with the few ideas I hated, there were many, many creative ideas that just might help a sleep-frazzled parent coax a little more sleep out of their little one.  If you can take the advice with a grain of salt, you’ll find lots of helpful ideas in this book.

The final item that I am offering to give away is an adorable waterproof cloth-diaper cover by Mika of Froggy Girl Designs.  She does all sorts of adorable custom sewing, including clothing and diapers for babies and little children.  The winner of the giveaway gets to choose whether they want the red transportation design or the pink piggy ballerina design.  There are many other cute designs offered on the site as well. These diaper covers are size medium, and thanks to their 4 rows of sturdy snaps will adjust to fit most babies between 12 and 22 pounds or so.  The leg and waist openings are softly gathered with a stretchy fold-over elastic to feel comfy on delicate skin, and the inner layer is a soft waterproof PUL. These are great little diaper covers. The only reason you get to choose from both of these is that my daughter and her husband don’t know yet if they’re having a girl or a boy, and I don’t know which of these cute covers to keep! (If I end up giving away the one they need, I’ll be high-tailing it over to Froggygirl Designs to buy them another one!)  🙂

To enter this drawing for your own baby or just to have a great baby shower gift sometime, comment below and tell me one item that you think is absolutely essential when getting ready for a baby to arrive.  A couple things on my list:  onesies, and a good baby carrier. For a second entry, go visit Froggy Girl Designs and tell me one item you like there. For a THIRD entry, hit the ‘like’ button at the bottom of this post, then comment again and tell me you liked this giveaway.  I’ll be announcing a winner on Friday.  And stay tuned:  I’ve got more cookbooks to give away this week, including a very cool rice cooker cookbook.

  1. I would have to agree with one commenter about having a good nursing bra BEFORE baby arrived. With Baby #4 having just arrived, I am very pleased with two essentials: 1) nursing tanks – they are comfy and good for sleeping in too without the discomfort of an actual bra. 2) snuggle nest by baby delight – better than a bassinet because you don’t have to get in and out of bed and you can easily see your infant without walking up to and looking into a bassinet. Even when the bed is made the snuggle nest is very handy for the newborn. Definitely an essential in my book. I would recommend it to everyone!

  2. What a great giveaway!

I LOVE those muslin swaddling blankets. Mine came in a 4-pack from Target and are Aiden & Anais brand. They’re the perfect size, thickness, and weight for good swaddling as well as a host of other uses.

  3. I know you said one but my big 3 are a moby or sleepy wrap, a papasan swing(I tend to have refluxy babies and these are sooo helpful), and miracle blankets for swaddling.

  4. Melissa Allison says:

I definitely recommend having an infant swing! It was a lifesaver with each of my 5 children!

  5. Melissa Allison says:

Oh my goodness, there are so many things I like at Froggy Girl Designs! I love the Handmade Froggy Fix It Bags and the Handmade Girls Hair Clips!

  6. Melissa Allison says:

    I “liked” this giveaway!

  7. I think you need to have lots and lots of children’s books to read to little ones, right from the start! A beginner’s Bible should be in that stack for sure. Thanks for sharing – I have a niece who’s expecting a little one and she would love the treats.

  8. Great giveaway! My baby must-haves have changed with each baby, but most recently I think the Beco Butterfly II carrier is fabulous, so much more comfortable than a Bjorn and I can still back carry my 19 month old in it comfortably. Great for keeping my hands free to help other kiddos and avoiding the bulk of a stroller in tight situations.
Those diaper covers are too cute!

  9. Hahahaha…sorry. You have book giveaways and now a “baby” giveaway. I must be tired, as it sounds like you are giving away a baby. Pick me, pick me!

Okay, the essential I love are the little sleepers for babies-so soft and cuddly. But I like receiving blankets equally.

    • You made me laugh, Joane! Tho of course you know a baby would never escape my clutches! 🙂 And I agree with you on the sleepers! I can’t wait to find out if my daughter and her husband are having a boy or a girl so I can shop for baby clothes!

  10. Home made flannel blankets. Nice big squares for swaddling now, laying on the floor later. I recently gave my daughter one in a gift for her baby that a friend had given me when I was pregnant with her. Classic.

  11. I think the essential for us would be our Boppy- it’s so helpful for those first few weeks of breastfeeding and then a great support for growing babies.

Thanks so much for the great giveaway!! 🙂

  12. Onesies… lots of onesies! Also, a vibrating/bouncing chair – they work wonders!

  13. A swing was essential for my fussy babies. Our girl is due this January, so great giveaway!

  14. I love a good front pack. With several little ones running around, it suddenly becomes dangerous to leave a newborn anywhere! They might get trampled or mishandled by an eager little one who just wants to hold the baby. I just pop the baby in the front pack and then I can sweep the floor, or make dinner hands free. I am pregnant with number six, and with five little ones running around, l will soon dust off again my beloved front pack, my absolutely-can’t-live-without baby item.

  15. Footed onesies in the size of 3-6 months old is a very essential item. Never buy clothing in the newborn size or the 0-3 month size. Babies grow very fast and it is better to buy clothing in a larger size.
It was nice to go through everybody’s comments and getting to know the newborn essential some of which I didnt know about 🙂

  16. I loved the ‘Handmade Sky Temple Garland Chenille Backed Side Snap Baby Bib’ at the Froggy Girl Designs.

  17. My must have is a nice long table that you can secure the changing pad to. For our 1st baby, we changed him on the bed and after awhile it stressed out my back. For our daughter, this time, we bought a regular dresser drawer (not a changing table) and we’ve been changing her on the table.

  18. Jennifer Cooper says:

Dust off the Ergo baby carrier. I wear it all the time when they are little. It is especially helpful that hour before dinner and before dad is home.

  19. Jennifer Cooper says:

    Liked the giveaway

  20. Jennifer Cooper says:

I liked this at Froggy Girl Design:
Trimsies Monkeyin Around PUL Diaper Cover Waterproof Custom Size

I plan to look for some training pants.

  21. You should have a package of newborn and a package of size 1 disposable diapers. You never know how much your baby will weigh when they are born and you will definitely need diapers right away.

  22. I like the Boys Feeling Froggy Patrick Curved Raglan Shirt Size 6-12 months.

  23. Must have: diapers! Love cloth diapers for my newborns!

  24. I like the the turtles diaper cover

  25. Expecting number four any day now, literally. I cannot live with a good swaddle blanket and my Moby wrap!

  26. Lots of blankets and a freezer full of home made meals to resist paying expensive resturant prices when everyone is too tired to cook

  27. Rebekah Jones says:

Definitely a wrap or carrier. After #2 came along, I was doing more than just sitting like with my first. And when #3 came along, I’m still standing, 10 mon later, LOL! My moby saved my sanity the first few months to always have baby close and quiet. Easy access to feeding also!

  28. I’ve gotten a lot of use out of our Boppy for nursing and the Moby Wrap for the first few months. I’m currently 8 days overdue with #3 and hoping I get to use these items ANY DAY NOW.

  29. To get ready for baby I am getting the nursery ready, but focusing on the first three months. It seems as though there are a million things the baby will need in that first year, so I am taking it three months at a time; stroller, car seat, onesies, and winter gear such as blankets and hats.
