Book Giveaway: The Shelter of God’s Promises

Today’s book to give away is called The Shelter of God’s Promises and it was written by Sheila Walsh.  She writes about the most difficult circumstances of life, the times when you might look at what’s going on, and let your faith be shaken.  Is God still working, even when He is allowing hard things to happen?  And how can we keep the faith during those times?  Walsh uses stories to share insight into the struggles we all face at times, and points the way toward the kind of peace that passes understanding.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

I have five copies of this book that I’ll be giving away on Monday.  If you are interested in winning one of these copies, will you share with me one of your favorite promises from the Bible?  Which verse gives you hope most often during difficult days?

Two favorites of mine:  Jeremiah 29:11 and Galatians 6:9.  I’ll be interested to hear yours!

  1. Jeremiah 29:11 is my favorite one, too. 🙂

  2. My favorite is Zephaniah 3:17. Makes me smile to think of a mighty warrior who would stop to sing because of me. *blush*

  3. Jeremiah 29.11 is my favorite too.
    Ann

  4. Ps 16:8
I will put the Lord always before me, because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

LOVE this one. … Especially in tough times.

  5. Heb 13: 5-6

    “Never will I leave you;
    never will I forsake you.”

6 So we say with confidence,

“The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?”

  6. Chris Butler says:

I’d have to say on eof mine is also Jer. 29:11……there’s comfort in knowing that HE does have plans!!! even when we have NO idea what’s going on, and He DOES have a future for us!

  7. Psalm 62:7 “My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge.”

  8. I just won a giveaway, but I wanted to comment on this post….We have had a REAL tough 3ish years since the mortgage crash…but this year, God has spoken a lot of HOPE into my heart through the book of Isaiah…my new favorite promise is from Is. 49…vs. 14-16 especially…
But Zion (Carrie) said, The Lord hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me.
Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yea, they may forget, yet I will not forget thee.
Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.

    Love,
    C~

  9. “Hope deferred makes the heart sick,But when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.” Proverbs 13:12

It is a reminder to me that no matter what is going on, it is important to cling to God and his promises. If I lose hope/faith, it will only get worse. Then I mediate on his more of His promises and boy does it lift my spirit. I don’t have to understand why, only that God is God and He’s my Father!

  10. Love Zephaniah 3:17, but lately I’ve been drawn to Isaiah 61:3, “he brings beauty from ashes” I pray He will do that with my life.

  11. “You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not in Your book?” Ps 56:8.

  12. “the grace of our Lord was more than abundant, with the faith and love which are found in Christ Jesus.” 1 Tim 1:14

    Blessings,
    Lucy

  13. My 2 favorites:
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid. John 14:27” (from the NRSV)

    and
“Do you know what I want? I want justice — oceans of it. I want fairness — rivers of it. That’s what I want. That’s all I want. Amos 5:24” (from The Message)

  14. My 2 favorites:
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.” John 14:27 (from the NRSV)

    and
“Do you know what I want? I want justice — oceans of it. I want fairness — rivers of it. That’s what I want. That’s all I want.” Amos 5:24 (from The Message)

okay, and I can’t help, but I love this one too:
“Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalms 46:10 (from the NRSV)

  15. Psalm 66:10-12 A bit odd but it’s really brought me comfort in some tough times.

  16. Oh gosh how do you pick?? I think John 10:10: The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

  17. Psalm 32:
    1 Blessed is the one
    whose transgressions are forgiven,
    whose sins are covered.
    2 Blessed is the one
whose sin the LORD does not count against them
and in whose spirit is no deceit.

  18. Annie L. says:

“Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever!” Psalm 125:1

  19. One I know by heart… Phil 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

  20. Romans8:38-39 Nothing separates us from HIs love.

  21. Psalm 46:! God is our refuge and strength. A very present help in trouble.

  22. Angela Mayer says:

Philippians 1:6 He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

  23. laura h. says:

My favorite is Isaiah 29:18: “And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the blind shall see out of obscurity and out of darkness”
    also John 11:35: “Jesus wept”

  24. Sarah P. says:

My favorite promise is Matt 11:28-30.

  25. Christin Harrison says:

Deut. 31:6…Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.

  26. Two of my favorites are: Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth me.” And the other one is Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all thy heart, and lean not unto thy own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he will direct thy paths.”

  27. Micah 6:8

He hath shewed thee, O man, what [is] good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

This verse recently took on a new significance when our 6 yo son memorized it for a sports team he was on. He has since remembered it and applied it at the most appropriate moments that has blessed me immensely! He seems to be God’s Way for me (at my age, older Mom that I am here) to be reminded of God’s Love and simple Truth, simple enough for a child to understand and use to help whenever and wherever needed! Thank You. God Bless You!

  28. Isaiah 53:11. When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish he will be satisfied. And because of his experience, my righteous servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for he will bear all their sins.

I LOVE that Jesus was satisfied with the outcome of his suffering. It affected so many people, all people, for good. It is encouraging to me because that is the God we serve, and that when I am in anguish, it has to possibility to help others….and I know when I see the big picture I will be satisfied with my suffering seeing what God has made it into.

  29. Psalms 37:4. ” Delight thyself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart” I was widowed at age 48, and my desire was for God to give me another wonderful Christian mate. He did, and He gave me much more, a wonderful minister of the gospel. We were married for 32 years before God called him home at age 86. I have been a Christian since I was 12 years old, and I delight in reading His word, the Bible.

  30. Jeremiah 20:11. ” For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

  31. For as long as I can remember (and that is starting to fade as I get older ha!) my favorite promise to rest on is Phil. 4:13; “I can do ALL things through CHRIST who gives me strength”.
