food substitutes for sleep, right?

ohmygoodness, I don’t know how people manage to routinely get up early and actually enjoy it. Two days of driver’s ed and I’m already in an utter fog.  I MUST start getting to bed by 10.

That, and the problem that my 5AM breakfast seems to be just a distant memory by 9AM.  This morning in an attempt not to eat a whole second breakfast, (the first was coffee and oatmeal at 5:30) I fried onions and mushrooms in a dab of butter.  Strange sounding but quite yummy.

In keeping with my munchy attack this morning, I am looking longingly at this recipe for chocolate banana muffins.  I might balance it out with the recipe I promised you the other day– tomato tortellini soup.  Mmmmm!

  2. I am a daily 5 am riser so I can completely understand about the breakfast quandry. I am always hungry around 9-9:30am-ish. My snack at that time is either a banana + 2 small tangelos or 10 almonds + some small fruit. That will keep you till noon 🙂 Best of luck for son’s drivers ed. And warm food of mushroom+onions does sound divine..

  3. I get up most days at 4:30 a.m. for a 5:00 a.m. class at the gym. I don’t have a bunch of time when I get home (getting kids ready for school, packing lunches, filling water bottles, etc.), so I opt for a Balance bar then (not cheap or even the healthiest) and then have something else between 8:30 and 9:30. Some things I eat for my second breakfast are oatmeal, low-fat cottage cheese with all-fruit spread, dry cereal (like Frosted Mini Wheats), muffins or baked oatmeal if I have them. I am naturally a morning person, so I always wonder what people can find to do after 10 pm, but I never stay up to find out. 🙂

  4. Onion and mushroom is one of my favorite combos with egg, potatao, or a burger…I’m hungry now!

  5. I love mushrooms onions and tomatos in scrambled eggs. I could eat a whole pan. I don’t often make it when I have to share…..

  6. ha ha ha I didn’t even see this until I made the other comment on your exercise post. 🙂 I allow myself small snacks. I do better that way, but I have to contend with myself when we travel and I don’t have constant access to food. Then I realize how much I like being a stay at home mom for me, as well as other reasons. *shuffles*
