For you football fans

The Blind Side

For Valentine’s Day John took me to see The Blind Side. I count it as Sandra Bullock’s best performance ever, bar none. We own both Lake House and While You Were Sleeping and have seen them often enough that I can quote fair portions of both movies. I love me some Sandra Bullock.  But this movie–ohmygoodness, she rocked it so hard. Love, love, love her. Think impeccably dressed gorgeous southern woman crossed with angry mama-tiger.

If you are an adoptive mom, you’ll love this movie. If you love football, you’ll love this movie. If you are the type of person who roots for the underdog, this movie will have you cheering. For those of you wondering about its suitability for kids, there’s some limited foul language and gang violence– I think in our house this will be a teens and adults only movie. But it is a seriously inspirational story.

Best defense

We had steak for dinner this evening , some of which got charred edges, despite being blood red in the middle. (When you only grill t-bone 4 times a year, you don’t have much of a chance to get expert at it.  But man, was it yummy.)  Anyway, my 7 year old looked at a piece, poked it and said, “Mom, this is burnt.” She caught my eyebrow raise and quickly added, “No defense.”

And then looked puzzled as several siblings immediately jumped in to explain there’s a difference between defense and offense.

  1. I bawled my eyes out and I agree, best Sandra Bullock movie ever!

  2. A girl after my own heart! I was a cheerleader in 8th grade, in high school marching band for four years, then college band for two years. Clearly I didn’t pay attention, because when I became a high school band director, one of my students had to sit me down and give me a quick tutorial on the ins and outs of football!

  3. This is one movie that I really want to see. I love Sandra Bullock, too. Did you watch Hope Floats? Love the music from that one.

  4. While You Were Sleeping—as in “These mashed potatoes are so creamy,” the best dining room scene in the history of movies? I didn’t know anyone else had a soft spot for that one!

  5. It is a great movie, but I was disappointed that they made it out like he was taught how to play football by his adoptive family. That is just not true.

  6. LOVE LOVE LOVE the movie! And apparently, so do a bunch of other people. When we went to the theater to see it about a month ago, they said it was it’s last week. The theater was packed to the gills. And they keep holding it over. I’d go see it again. =)

And too funny about the “defense.” Love it.

  7. I loved that movie too. Lots.

I thought Sandra did a great job, but it didn’t really seem like a stretch for her. Maybe I’m too tough. 😉 She definitely pulled off the Dallasite woman very, very well.

  8. We went on Valentine’s Day too.

Much sadness in my heart. I have 4 adopted children and my oldest man has been sent to a Christian boys’ ranch last summer. Feel free to visit my blog and click on Hoss’ picture.

  9. Thanks for the thumbs up on the movie. I’m a big fan of hers, too, and have been wondering about this one.

I thought I was the only one who quotes lines from her movies more often then men use lines from The God Father. Lol!

  10. I too love Sandra Bullock and feel she knocked this movie out of the park! LOVED the movie, so amazing on all levels.

    Hugs,
    Heidi
