Review: Potty Training Answer Book

I got The Potty Training Answer Book to review a couple weeks ago. Since I have potty trained 8 kids, some of the stuff seemed pretty basic to me. But there was a lot of good information. I really liked the emphasis in the book on temperaments. In my experience the temperament of the child has a huge bearing on how quickly or slowly the child is trained, as does the age of the child when you begin potty training. There are lots of suggestion and tools in this book for parents to try, depending on the child’s behavior and the amount of flexibility that a parent has in their own work schedule.

In talking with young moms, I know many moms have a lot of questions about potty training. I think this book would be a real confidence booster for a mom who hadn’t potty trained a child before or who was having challenges with a ‘difficult’ child after having quick and easy success with a mellow child the first time around. This would also be a very practical baby shower gift.

  1. Oh, goodness, do I EVER need this book! My first born was easy to train in 2 days. My two 2 year-olds are proving to be very difficult, however, and I know it’s their personalities.

  2. My sister is pregnant with her first child and her baby girl will be our first niece! We’re very excited but since none of us saw someone potty train a child in about 15 years, I think we need a refreshment course. That book would be very helpful!

  3. My little one is not potty training well at all. I would love a book on potty training too. Thanks for doing a give away!

  4. Oh… I could definitely use this! We are in the beginning stages of potty training with our 2 1/2 year old and I feel like I have no idea what I’m doing! A little guidance would be much appreciated.

  5. I can’t believe how timely this is. I have just begun to introduce my 22 month old daughter to her new potty chair and so far so good. My bio son is 30! so it’s been a long time and I could use a refresher course.

  6. It’s been 18 years since I potty trained Jessica, so Emmy might benefit from that book in a few years. Sign me up, please!

    Hugs,

    Diane

  7. I’m anticipating needing this book in a couple years!

  8. Now that we are adopting our first son, I’m feeling like a refresher on patty training, especially any boy specific advice, would be most welcome!

  9. I’m on board–sounds like a useful book.

  10. [Waving hand in the air]

Me, me, pick meee!!! My guy’s 4.25 and we’re still workin’ on it. If you need me, I’ll be kneeling over here with the carpet cleaner and towels…

  11. Do I ever need this book! At three-and-a-half, Bub is very cheerful about sitting on the potty and not peeing in it. He loves the Once Upon a Potty video and can recite much of the dialogue but has no apparent attention to put it into practice!

  12. we could use this book big time as we’re now beginning to train our second-born, almost-three-year-old boy. his older brother, who just turned four, practically potty trained himself. and our second-born seems a bit more reluctant at the same age and i’m already worried!!! talk about needing some confidence boosters (for me!)

  13. Margaret says:

Oh, me, me! I want to win! 😀

I’m wanting to go back to one in diapers, but my 27 month old isn’t much interested.

  14. I vote for Azul, but since I don’t think my vote counts, I’ll enter my name. We’re adopting two from Ethiopia and one will be potty training age. Thanks Mary.

  15. I’m pretty sure I could make use of this book. My sweet daughter is a potty training dropout. We tried once a few months back and gave up after a great deal of time without success. We’re just gearing up to try again and I’ll take all the tips I can get. Thanks for the opportunity!

  16. I’d love it. I haven’t a clue how to potty train a boy! He’s showing interest, but quite frankly I am terrified. And I’ve done potty trained once before. Perhaps that is why!

  17. Thanks for the direction! I have a 10 month old and I am terrified of embarking on that adventure! I appreiciate the recommendation!

  18. Even after working in the potty training room at daycare and training my 2 older kids, I am amazed at how different my youngest is, we are working on it but I have had to do everything different this time around. So any advie would be welocome here.

  19. I’m so glad to hear your review on this book. I’ll be looking for it because I have second child to potty train any day now and first child was “potty trained himself” easy! So I feel like I’m at the beginning of this process. 🙂

  20. I could so use this! I have a home daycare and I’m always needing tips for things that work with different types of kids.

  21. I throw my name in the ring! I was just thinking today about HOW LONG it took our first one to “get it” and how I”m dreading training #2. That book sounds like it would be helpful!

  22. I vote for Azul also! She definately needs it ….poor thing! My kiddos are both 2 1/2 but I learned with my 19 year old daughter who was almost 3 1/2 you can’t make strong willed children go potty if they don’t want to! So at the age of 44 I am more patient and just ask them each day if they would like to go potty and they just nicely tell me they don’t go potty…they go in their diapees. There you have it….so I wait!

  23. I am about to start potty training my 27 month old and would welcome as much advice as I can get! Thanks!

  24. Given that my toddler still won’t poop in the potty, I think I’d like to enter to win, too.

  25. Potty training was my Waterloo! well, my kids’, really. My sweet girl was much easier than my tough little guy. I felt like I had run the mommy gauntlet and deserved a prize. Oh well, I will be doing it again when my soon to be son from Ethiopia gets to that stage.

  26. Yup, could sure use that book over here! What with two, 2 and under! 🙂

  27. Christina says:

Oh yes, if I don’t win this I will have to buy it. I have an almost three year old boy (Who has zero interest in potty training), an eighteen month old boy and one more on the way. I think I’ll be potty training for the next couple of years.

  28. My youngest two children are ten months apart and are not yet toilet-trained! In fact, the youngest of the two is further along the path than her three year-old brother. I can use all the help I can get!!

  29. me too…i’m just seeing signs like i’m gonna need to read this soon. if i don’t win…i’m happy to know it meets your approval. xo

  30. i really need a book like this. i am am going to be starting to potty train here in a few months. i am not looking forward to it. We have tried in the past and failed miserably

  31. Please pick me!!! I need that book badly!

My fifth child is proving to be the most strong willed EVER.

She thinks it is fine to take her cute little panties off, put a new pull up on, pee in it, take it off, throw in trash, put back on cute princess panties.

She see’s nothing wrongs with this. Would it not be easier to just go into the bathroom???

Do you see why I desperately need this book????

  32. Does it have any tips for night. My kids have the days figured out but my almost 6 yearaold still pees the bed a couple of times a night and I have no idea how to help him.

  33. Please put me down for the book too.
    I love your blog.

  34. sounds like this book may come in handy for me. My son is at the potty training age and this book may be just in time. Good luck all!

  35. All of my boys have been different with potty training and with a new little one on the way, I would love to start earlier and potty train my 2 year old! I need to get him out of diapers!!! He really doesn’t show any interest yet and is quite afraid of the potty!!
    Help!

  36. I would love a copy

  37. Does it have any advice on twins? I just posted on our potty-training woes. I think the girls have regressed, because we were doing fabulously for awhile and now having lots of accidents. Eventually they’ll get there, right?

  38. Count me in on the book drawing. I could use some more ideas and tips on how to train my little one! 🙂

  39. Interesting! I am on my fourth child to potty train and it is my least favorite thing to do! Maybe this will give new ideas.

  40. I need to tackle this task- my 2 1/2 year old is quite smart but we have not mastered the potty. Bought 2 more packages of diapers -ugg- did gas price go down and diaper price go up this week?

  41. I think that this is a very good idea for a gift. We got extremely lucky with our 2 boys and they were potty trained at 2 1/2 and 2 3/4 and everyone is always asking for help. I would love to have a book to recommend-not that I don’t like talking about bowel movements all day lol.

  42. Enter me, please. I’ve got another almost-ready-to-potty-trainer walking around the house, asking to take her diaper off frequently.

  43. summershine says:

My 4 year old son absolutely refuses to potty train. I can use all the help I can get.

  44. I thought I was pretty good at potty training, but then I had my 6th child. Now I know that I know little to nothing. I need this book for my 7th child, maybe it will go better, lol.
