paperwork and prayer

Dear Netfriends:

Here’s where I share what an utterly impatient wimp I am. We started paperwork for our next adoption ONE week ago, and already I am cranky. Check out my Ethiopia blog for more details if you’re interested. B

Basically we have a sibling group in mind that we’ve fallen in love with. I’ll share details when we find out for sure if they will be ours. BUT before we can ‘claim’ the children, if indeed they are meant to be ours, we need a homestudy update.

Currently our homestudy agency has a moratorium on international homestudies due to a change in policies that they are considering making permanent. I don’t want to start over with a brand new homestudy agency, but I don’t want to wait months for a homestudy either.

I’ve reminded myself 10 times today that God’s timing is perfect, and that He will line us up with the right kids. If these kids are taken when our paperwork is done, that just means God has other kids in mind for us. (There are soooooo many waiting kids in Ethiopia, it boggles the mind.) But darn it all, I just want to DO something. It is tough, looking at pictures and wondering if these children are ours…

pray for our kids, whoever they are, and pray for our paperwork, OK? The sooner the homestudy gets done, the sooner I can TELL YOU about our new kids, which I would dearly love to do…. Thanks….

PS– While you’re in the praying mood, pray for my sister who is IN the air on the way to Ethiopia to get her son this very minute. I am so thrilled for her that I have been in tears 3 times in the past 2 days.

  1. Praying for you. Praying for your new additions. Praying for your sis.

  2. Will do, Mary. It’s a beautiful thing that you’re doing. 🙂

  3. Jennifer says:

Mary, your heading is soooo adorable. I love it 🙂

  4. Your family are in my prayers here.

  5. I feel ya……..oh my do I ever feel ya, we started a domestic foster care adoption back in October, we are still in ICPC! UGGG. (((hugs)))

  6. Will be praying for you, your kids, your sister . . .
I have a post waiting at my place that I’m not quite ready to put out there, but it’s all about a similar situation in our lives. It’s SO hard to know and not know all at the same time!
Aren’t you SO thankful that we have a heavenly Father who is able to love those children in your absense!?!

  7. The paperwork and waiting isn’t any easier when it’s your second child or your ninth and tenth, is it?! No paperwork here for a third yet, but I’m praying on it. I will be praying for you, your family, your sister and of course, all the orphaned children around the world…of which there are too many.

  8. Dear Marry,

I am really admiring YOU. You already share you life with 8 children and still have the strenght to give more kids a home and lots of Love. In Germany we have a proverb “Ich ziehe meinen Hut vor Dir” with means if I would wear a hat I would take it down for you. Wish you could hand over some of your patience, understanding and your trust in GOD to me (and I have only two sons, nearly 8 and 4 1/2 yaers old). Be the way: You ne layout is wonderful and hopefully soon filled with more kids :-). I will keep you in my mind. Christine

  9. So exciting and yet frustrating to have to wait.

Where is there information about the orphanages? Is there a website or something where you can see the waiting kids?

  10. Mary, you sound just like me!! Patience is NOT one of my virtues so God and His sense of humor decided that my children would come through adoption and all of its waiting and required patience. 🙂 I hope things move quickly for you and for the children who are meant to be part of you wonderful family.

  11. Praying and hoping that it’s an EXTRAORDINARILY, MIND-BOGGLINGLY quick process. ‘Cuz with the trajectory you’re on already, you’re going to implode if it takes a more normal amount of time … =^)

  12. Praying for you all. This is so exciting… I think you are being very restrained indeed.

  13. 2 or 3 siblings? Just checking =0)

I’m right there with you on the patience!! We are hopefully starting our HS for our Indian waiting child soon!!!

  14. I wish you all the best during this frustratin time.

  15. Will do!

I saw your sister last week and promised I’d be praying!

  16. Your new header is too cute! Did you make it yourself? I can see each one of your children represented on it, and I’m sure you can’t wait to add a few more. That guy in the middle looks a little lonely. 🙂

  17. Will do….I’m excited to follow this process with you. In God’s time of course!

  18. Hey, Mary…

    His timing is perfect.

    LOL! Couldn’t resist.

Many excited prayers for you and your family.

  19. it’s all worth it. just like the hard parts of pregnancy. love your new header.

  20. How do your kids feel about the new adoption?

  21. They are excited! They are actually campaigning for even more children than we are considering! TO my surprise, even my 16 year old daughter volunteered to share bedroooms with a new sibling, as long as it was an older girl. The kids are really blessing my heart with their enthusiasm.

  22. Wow, this is really exciting!

  23. WOW! I have been away from your blog for a while. What great news. I am happy to hear that you are adding to your family, I think it’s beautiful and I will keep you and the children in my prayers. God’s timing is soooo pefect… just continue to remind yourself, even when it doesnt seem to be sinking in. BTW, the new heading is just awesome!

  24. very exciting…thinking of you and wishing your sister a safe trip.

  25. Congrats on your new nephew and on your upcoming additions. We just brought home our kiddos in Sept of 06. We started our paperwork in Dec 04. May yours be speedier.

  26. Yup. I’m feeling it, too. We adopted our son internationally last year (from GUA), and this year we’re working on adopting one, hopefully two from the foster-care system. And we’re in that waiting phase right now. You’d think it would get easier. I’ve done this wait before, and haven’t I learned ANYthing?!?!

God’s timing is perfect. He will not let us miss out on the children He has planned for our family. The delays do not go unnoticed by Him, and will not hinder His plan.

Now, maybe I should tatoo these things on my body, somewhere. Just to remind me more often?!

  27. I found the answer here. Mary, I think it’s so wonderful that you’re willing to adopt more children and share God’s love! What a gift God has given you to provide for these children! Thanks for sharing and I can’t wait to hear the rest of the good news. Keep us updated!

Praying for you and your family. Including your sister!

  28. I haven’t been over in a while since the new baby, but I want to wish you congrats on your new venture anyway! Godspeed the process. I know it can be unbearable!
